The small single direction tapered roller thrust bearings are usedalmostexclusively for the kingpin bearing arrangement ofcommercialvehicles,They have a full complement of rollers and are heldtogether bya sheet steel cover. Most of these bearings are fitted withrubbingseals of wear and oil-resistant nitrile (NBR) rubber.
The washers of the bearings with shaft and housing washers havingthesame dimensions both have a tapered raceway and one retainingflange.Bearings of this design are to be preferred where very heavyaxial loadsare to be supported as, for example, in the swivels ofdrilling rigs orin crane hooks. The bearings have a cage which iscentred on bothwashers.
